Govt warning on AFL games

Posted May 21, 2011 06:23:00

The State Government has warned that a deal to play North Melbourne A-F-L matches in Hobart could fall under budget pressure.

The Premier, Lara Giddings has given in-principle support to hosting two Kangaroos games a season at Bellerive Oval from next year.

But, she has warned there may not be room in the budget.

Hobart alderman Marti Zucco says the deal hinges on the State Government helping to cover the price tag of more than $500,000 a game.

"We've done everything in our power to oblige the government and providing all the information that it needs to make a decision."

"And all that information is now on the table with the government and it's in their court to decide whether or not the proposal, as put, is worthy of economic incentives for the state," Alderman Zucco said.

The Premier, Lara Giddings is expected to submit a proposal to Cabinet shortly.
