Akermanis fined over car crash

Updated June 21, 2012 14:49:11

Retired AFL star Jason Akermanis has been fined $700 by a Sunshine Coast court for refusing to give his name after a car crash.

It is alleged the former Brownlow medallist was involved in a crash with another driver on Brisbane Road at Mooloolaba in December last year, and refused to give his name when asked for his details.

The 35-year-old former Brisbane Lions and Western Bulldogs player was not required to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court.

His lawyer pleaded guilty on his behalf to two charges, including driving without due care and attention and failure to comply with the duties of a driver in a crash.

Former AFL player Jason Akermanis was among several people robbed during a football game in southern New South Wales at the weekend.

The thieves went through several bags in the change rooms while Akermanis was playing for the Murray Magpies in Albury on Saturday.

He had his mobile phone and wedding ring stolen.

Umpire Greg Bulman was also robbed.

The thieves made off with his car and his wallet which contained $750.

"I can replace the money and (was) lucky I got my car back and it was in good condition," he said.

"All they did was drive it to Red Rooster, which is in Lavington, and just parked it in a car park there and left it there."
