West Coast gamble on Rosa

Updated September 14, 2012 10:11:43

West Coast Eagles coach John Worsfold has gambled on Matt Rosa in his team's semi-final clash with Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday night.

Rosa is returning from a broken collarbone he suffered in the clash against the Magpies in round 22.

The 25-year-old comes into the side having played just once since round 18 after recovering from a fractured jaw before breaking his collarbone.

Worsfold earlier this week said he would only select Rosa if he proved at training he could handle the big bumps of finals football.

Rosa coming in for injured Eagles vice-captain Beau Waters is the only change for West Coast to the side that eliminated North Melbourne.

Tyson Goldsack has been handed the responsibility of filling the void left by suspended Collingwood captain Nick Maxwell for match against West Coast.

The versatile 25-year-old, who has played forward for much of this year, will be tasked with nullifying the threat posed by West Coast's imposing duo of Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling.

Maxwell misses Saturday's game and a potential preliminary final after accepting a two-game ban for an off-the-ball incident involving Hawthorn's Paul Puopolo.

The Magpies' other switch was the like-for-like replacement of Ben Sinclair, with Jamie Elliott coming into the side.

Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson threatened to make a number of changes for Friday night's clash with Fremantle at Football Park, after the disappointing home defeat to Sydney, but only Luke Thompson and Ricky Henderson have been drafted in for the Crows.

The two to make way are the 2012 Rising Star Daniel Talia, who will miss the rest of the finals with a broken arm, and Aidan Riley.

Like Goldsack, Thompson will face one of the toughest challenges in the game matching up against Dockers skipper Matthew Pavlich.

Fremantle's only change is Zac Clarke being brought in for Kepler Bradley.

Saints punt Gamble

Updated October 28, 2011 16:20:32

St Kilda has cut forward Ryan Gamble after only one season at the club.

The 24-year-old was signed to the Saints from Geelong and played 11 matches during the 2011 season but has been axed by new coach Scott Watters.

Gamble had five seasons in and out of the Cats' line-up, although he never played in any of their premiership sides.

St Kilda confirmed on Friday they had de-listed eight players - Steven Baker, Andrew McQualter, Robert Eddy, Al Smith, Nick Heyne, Paul Cahill, Gamble and Will Johnson.

Ruckman Michael Gardiner has retired.

Baker, McQualter, Eddy and Gardiner's departures had already been confirmed by previous coach Ross Lyon.
