Fallen AFL star Brendan Fevola has attended a private mediation session with police in the hope of avoiding a public nuisance charge.
Fevola and his lawyers met with police at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday to discuss whether criminal proceedings would be dropped.
Fevola was to face charges of public nuisance and obstructing police after he was arrested in the early hours of January 1 in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley.
Police had alleged the former Brisbane Lions forward became verbally aggressive towards them when asked to stop walking on the road.
However, in February lawyer Jim Coburn said Fevola had made an unconditional apology, and that they were "extremely confident" the criminal proceedings would then be dropped.
The outcome of the mediation session is expected to be revealed when the matter returns to the courts at the end of the month.
