Scarlett crashed into Lewis during a marking contest in the final quarter of Tuesday's AFL match at the MCG, where the Cats steadied to win an enthralling contest by 19 points in front of 78,579 fans.
Geelong are second on the ladder with a 5-0 start to the season but face a nervous wait over Scarlett's clash with Lewis, who left the field dazed and requiring medical attention for a head wound but was quickly back in action.
The AFL's Match Review Panel is also sure to scrutinise an incident in the first quarter of Tuesday's match as Hawks midfield star Sam Mitchell appeared to bump Geelong's Steve Johnson around the head region.
Injuries could also take a toll on both sides in the coming weeks. Hawthorn small forward Cyril Rioli added to his history of hamstring injuries and ended the game sitting on the bench with an ice-pack on his thigh.
Geelong's Taylor Hunt limped off in the opening term of Tuesday's game with medial-ligament damage to his knee and could be out for four weeks, coach Chris Scott says.
Scarlett said he was confident he had done nothing wrong in the clash with Lewis.
"I watched the replay and I got the ball. I had no intent (to injure)," Scarlett said.
"Hopefully the right decision gets made.
"The replay shows pretty clearly that I hit the ball."
Both sides have the bye next weekend.
Scarlett says the Cats are looking forward to taking on Collingwood in round eight on May 13 at the MCG, although they must first negotiate bottom side North Melbourne at Kardinia Park on May 7.
"We're going alright but we're not setting the world on fire," he said.
"We know we've got to improve enormously so we're just working hard and trying to catch the benchmark of the competition which is Collingwood."
Sporting a black eye, Scarlett says he's appreciating his role as a spare-parts man behind key defenders Harry Taylor and Tom Lonergan.
"Both of those guys are developing really well and it sort of allows me to play on smalls and talls and help the side wherever I'm needed," Scarlett said after collecting 29 possessions.
He said Taylor was "probably the best mark that I've ever played with" and a future club captain.
Scarlett was buoyed by the birth of his twin sons Harry and Oliver to wife Milla.
"I picked them up from hospital yesterday. I've just had a great week," the 31-year-old said.

Billed as season-defining showdown for both clubs, the Tigers' speed and youthful exuberance shone through in the last quarter as they reeled in a 13-point three-quarter time deficit to prevail 17.10 (112) to 14.19 (103) at Docklands.
Young Tigers star Dustin Martin stole the show with 33 possessions and four goals, lifting Richmond off the canvas after the Kangaroos jumped out of the blocks with a 5.1 to 1.3 advantage after the opening term.
"Probably one of the best midfield games I've ever seen. He is a good young kid and he has his head screwed on the right way, which is always promising," team-mate Trent Cotchin told Grandstand.
Martin kicked the Tigers into the lead for the final time with five minutes left after being awarded a contentious free-kick deep inside North Melbourne's defensive 50.
Only a minute later, Jake King (three goals) ran into an open goal to extend the margin to 11 points as the Kangaroos ran out of gas with the game on the line.
Jack Riewoldt was also irrepressible at times in the Richmond forward line, taking a swag of strong marks and standing tall with 5.2 for the evening.
Drew Petrie was a standout for the still winless Kangaroos, booting six goals, four of which came in the first half.
The Roos' early advantage was whittled down to 10 points at half-time, before the Tigers briefly took their first lead of the game early in the third term, only for Roos skipper Brent Harvey to inspire his side again with a great running finish.
It was not until 12 minutes into the last term when a goal from Cotchin, who overcame an uncharacteristically poor start to the game, gave the Tigers the edge before they saw out some nervy moments in their back half thanks to some poor goal-kicking by North.
Midfielder Andrew Swallow pointed the finger at North's inability to make the most of its 33 shots on goal.
"It was very disappointing. One of the things we've got at the moment is guys not standing up in front of goals when they get the opportunity," he said.
"I think we kicked 2.8 in the last quarter. It really cost us and it's one that got away."
Better ball use
Whilst still unable to put together a four-quarter performance, Tigers coach Damian Hardwick will be buoyed by the fantastic work rate of his young charges in the clinches.
"We just have to make sure we are continually working on playing the whole game out. We haven't been pretty good in third and second quarters, but our starts are still hurting us and they did today," Cotchin said.
Cotchin said the Tigers gained the ascendancy by using the ball better after the long break, especially out of defence.
"We really got on top of them with the spread and as much as our contested footy probably went down in the second half, it was smarter ball use that helped us," he said.
"I was probably one of the main culprits with my ball use early on.
"But once we straightened up and starting using our width and opening them right up, we were able to put the scores on the board much better."
Robin Nahas' forward pressure was magnificent in the closing stages, as was the inside work of Nathan Foley, who finished with 24 touches and nine tackles.
In contrast, Brad Scott's men could not maintain their cracking start built on exposing the suspect Tigers defence with quick and frequent forward entries thanks to their superior clearance work.
"Our skill execution is still killing us. We really need to turn that around," added Swallow, who was one of North's best.
"We're in this together, we need to go back and work on a few things."

The Crows have narrowly gone down to Carlton at Docklands despite leading by 11 points late in the match
Carlton has survived a tension-filled final quarter to see off Adelaide by six points at Docklands stadium, with the Blues almost paying the price for inaccuracy before getting over the line 11.19 (85) to 12.7 (79).After the Blues were disappointed not to clinch a win in their draw with Essendon last round, they almost missed out again, as they controlled the game for most of the night but allowed Adelaide to hit the front in the final term.
But classy late goals to David Ellard and Jordan Russell and a desperate lunging tackle from Aaron Joseph in the final seconds allowed them to hold on for victory.
Andrew Walker bagged four goals for the winners, while Taylor Walker matched his effort for the visitors.
Carlton coach Brett Ratten said the Blues' field kicking, as well as in front of goal, was poor, but the fact they showed the character to win anyway was heartening.
"We've had a few close ones, we've probably lost those (in the past), so to the players it's a real pat on the back for their character to come back," he said.
"It looked like we just had no run, or (didn't know) where the next goal was going to come from and you find some big moments in games."
He said skipper Judd and fellow midfielder Marc Murphy were outstanding throughout.
Adelaide coach Neil Craig said his side responded well after last weekend's fade-out loss to Port Adelaide, but lacked poise late in the game.
He said his side contained a group of youngsters not yet accustomed to playing consistent "hard-nosed" football, but they would benefit from hanging in as long as they did against class opposition.
"We're a fair way away at the moment, but if we keep doing that we'll accelerate pretty quickly," Craig said.
Led by a great first term from captain Chris Judd, the Blues started with a burst and when Walker kicked his second 19 minutes into the match, they were up 5.1 to 1.2.
But they made it an extremely nervous ride, with their next 11 scores behinds as they added 6.18 for the rest of the night, as well as sending numerous shots out of bounds, to keep Adelaide in with a sniff.
The Crows pegged back the deficit, with their tall forwards Kurt Tippett, Shaun McKernan and Walker booting nine majors between them to keep their side in it.
They closed to within three points late in the first half, before a spectacular high-flying mark and goal to Carlton's Walker right on half-time put the gap back to 10 points.
But Carlton continued to waste chances, allowing Adelaide midfielder Scott Thompson to put his side in front for the first time in the match when he converted 10 minutes into the last quarter.
After another goal either way, Blues youngster Ellard kicked an excellent running goal from outside 50 metres to level the scores.
Russell followed up with an even better one, shrugging off an opponent to goal off a few steps from just inside 50m and regain a six-point lead.
A behind each way gave the Crows one more chance to try to force a draw, but as they were surging forward, a desperate Joseph tackle on Crows skipper Nathan Van Berlo ensured Carlton held on.
Blues: 11.19 (85) - A Walker 4, D Ellard 2, J Waite 2, E Betts, J Garlett, J Russell
Crows: 12.7 (79) - T Walker 4, K Tippett 3, S McKernan 2, B Vince, M Jaensch, S Thompson

Jolly has overcome a knee injury which sidelined him for last week's win over Richmond, and has been named in the Magpies side.
His role will be vital, with the Bombers selecting David Hille, Paddy Ryder and Tom Bellchambers in a three-pronged ruck attack for the MCG clash.
Collingwood defender Heath Shaw said Jolly was ready to go and was up to the challenge of battling the Bombers' talls.
"He had last week off because his knee was a little bit sore but he's ready to go," Shaw said on Sunday.
"It's going to be a big challenge for him. He's going to have three guys to come up against, all different types of ruckmen.
"I think Jolls is up to the challenge."
Collingwood has also included livewire small forward Brad Dick at the expense of Andrew Krakouer.
A crowd of more than 90,000 is expected for the match.

Power forward Justin Westhoff, a hero in last week's Showdown win over the Crows, had a chance to break the Suns' hearts with a shot on goal after the siren, but his skewed effort sailed wide for a behind, setting off a wave of memorable celebrations.
Port coach Matthew Primus was clearly embarrassed by his side's capitulation, agreeing with the assessment of Power's best on ground, Hamish Hartlett, that the Power is now the "laughing stock of the competition".
Despite trailing by 28 points, Gold Coast finished the third term with all the momentum and went on to kick six goals to one in a thrilling final quarter which featured standout performances from captain Gary Ablett, first draft pick Andrew Swallow and a host of others including forward pocket speedster Brandon Matera who finished with four goals.
Former Lion Michael Rischitelli was named best on ground for his 31 touches and two goals, but a long list of Suns players, including their senior contingent, could have easily taken the honour in the 15.14 (104) to 15.11 (101) triumph.
The Suns lost their opening three matches by 119, 71 and 90 points and many were tipping they would struggle to register a single win this season.
But Ablett, who was criticised heavily mid-week and accused of turning into a party boy, told Grandstand the club had faith the results would start turning around.
"A lot of younger boys needed that belief, that if we stuck to the structures and stuck to the way we play that we could get up in the end." the champion midfielder said, whilst admitting he probably would have burst into tears if Westhoff was able to convert with the final kick of the game.
"It's fantastic, you can't wipe the smile off any of their faces.
"All the senior blokes were also outstanding today. It's very hard with 17 to 18-year-old kids sometimes, when the game gets tough they drop their heads but they are all good quality.
"But for the senior blokes to stand up and lead and bring them along was fantastic."
Jared Brennan, Nathan Bock, Jarrod Harbrow and Josh Fraser all showed their experience and produced the type of displays expected to keep Gold Coast competitive in 2011.
"Slowly but surely the boys are playing longer patches of good football and it was just that never-say-die attitude," Suns coach Guy McKenna said.
"The boys got their tails up ... they were excited, they could smell maybe their first victory, so that drove them and probably pushed them beyond the point of exhaustion.
"Look at the boys after the song and most of them were reaching for oxygen masks and about to pass out."
Port fall back to earth
Just a week after romping to a similar come-from-behind victory, Port returned to its inconsistent ways and inexplicably switched off with the game seemingly safe in its keeping.
"We need to delve real deep in the psyche of the club and understand why we produce these types of results," Primus said post-match.
"To our supporters and sponsors listening, we apologise for that and we'll keep delving away to try and find a 22 that wants to compete on a weekly basis.
Down by 23 at the long break, the deficit slipped to 40 as Port continued to make the most of Gold Coast turnovers from skill errors, particularly in the Suns' own back half.
But a late running goal to Ablett and a snap by Luke Russell on the three-quarter time siren had the competition's new boys stirring and it was Russell again who popped up to kick what was the match-winner for the Gold Coast deep in time on in the last after a horrendous error by Michael Pettigrew from the kick-out.
Two goals by Charlie Dixon in the fourth quarter after stellar contested grabs was the catalyst for the young Suns, smelling blood as the Power fell apart under a stream of pressure as the composed Gold Coast dominated the stoppages and clearances.
Karmichael Hunt also had easily his best outing in his short AFL career, moving to dangerous Port forward Daniel Motlop in the last quarter and contributing significantly with a number of crucial spoils and hard attacks at the footy.

David Hille, who was impressive in the VFL last week after returning from injury, will link with Tom Bellchambers and Patrick Ryder in the Anzac Day blockbuster.
Coach James Hird said he would assess the tactic after the match but acknowledged there needed to be flexibility for conditions.
"We'll see how it goes," Hird said.
"It's not something we're necessarily picking for one week.
"We're picking a structure and type of side that we'll play for more than one week.
"We think the guys can play together for a while, but I think if it starts raining at midnight before Anzac Day and it rains all day, then you wouldn't play three ruckmen."
Kyle Reimers and Henry Slattery will also come into the side following the loss of pace with Courtenay Dempsey and Jason Winderlich suffering knee injuries last week.
Hird said Reimers needs to "just play well, play his role, and try his hardest."
"He doesn't need to do anything sensational, he just needs to win his fair share of the ball, defend when he needs to defend and set up in the right areas," he said.
"We've brought Kyle in, who is more of a running player, and Henry will play more of a defensive role than Courtenay Dempsey did.
"But we've got plenty of run and speed with (David) Zaharakis, (Leroy) Jetta, (Jake) Melksham, and (Dyson) Heppell, so we don't think we lack runners."
Hird said the club had learned from its preseason grand final loss to Collingwood but said the Magpies had virtually nothing in the way of a weakness.
"We learned a little bit out of that about Collingwood, but Collingwood's game plan has been in front of everyone for a very long time," he said.
"They've been playing this way for a good couple of years, so we got some positives out of the NAB Cup grand final but definitely some things we need to work on.
"If they've got weaknesses it would be great if they could show them to me because they look pretty solid at the moment.
"They look like they're playing with a lot of confidence, their game is very sound, they use ball well, and it just looks like a very good game plan."

For the second week in a row, Gray had to prove his fitness to Port coaching staff on the eve of a game as he struggles with a leg injury.
Power coach Matthew Primus said Gray was deemed fit after completing a 45-minute training session at Alberton Oval on Friday.
"He got through this morning no worries, so unless he pulls up significantly worse tomorrow morning, he's no worries at all," Primus said.
The Power replaced Paul Stewart (knee) with utility Jason Davenport for their Football Park encounter with Gold Coast.
The Suns, bolstered by the return of captain Gary Ablett, have lost their three matches by an average of 93 points but Primus was wary of considering them easybeats.
"In their first game, they got blown away," Primus said.
"The second game they were very good in a lot of areas against the Bulldogs even though the scoreboard didn't show it.
"And we watched their first quarter against Melbourne which they were good, and then the third quarter they were good, so we understand they have got some quality players and the more they play with each other, the better they are going to get.
"So we understand they are going to be better this week than what they were last week and we have to make sure we stamp our authority on the game early."
The Suns lost defender Michael Coad (hamstring) and Dion Prestia (soreness), while omitting Maverick Weller and Alik Magin.
Returning with Ablett are Sam Iles, Harley Bennell and Jack Hutchins for a Saturday afternoon fixture which will challenge Port's ability to draw a crowd.
"It's not ideal," Primus said of the timing of the match.
"We know our supporters, I don't think Saturday afternoon is the greatest time slot for them and for us.
"All we can do is ask for as many fans that are in town to come along and support us."
Coming after Port broke through for their first victory of the season against Adelaide last week, Primus said the Gold Coast would offer a test for his players who were expected to win handsomely.
"It's just another test to make sure their attitude and professionalism is spot on," he said.

Regular grand finalists St Kilda still looked a shadow of its once mighty self despite holding out the winless Lions 13.11 (89) to 11.10 (76) in front of 22,520 fans.
The Saints reeled in a five-point deficit at the final change thanks largely to Adam Schneider (three goals) and Leigh Montagna (33 disposals).
For the luckless Lions, Mitch Clark grabbed four goals while Tom Rockliff had 29 disposals and both Jed Adcock and Jack Redden had 27 touches.
Critics may have predicted the Lions would fail to register a victory in their first three games without inspirational skipper Jonathan Brown.
But the Saints - who have contested three grand finals in two seasons - had most tipsters stumped after also arriving at the Gabba without a 2011 win to their name.
And that trend did not look like changing based on their disappointing early display against a dogged Lions.
St Kilda small forward Stephen Milne at least kicked two majors to help his side grab a 5.2 (32) to 4.4 (28) lead at the first break.
But just two goals overall were kicked in the second term as the Saints held on for a narrow halftime lead.
An error-riddled Saints looked largely dispirited until Jason Gram brought up their only major of the second quarter to snatch a 6.4 (40) to 5.6 (36) half-time lead.
But two quick goals by Clark ensured the Lions enjoyed a 9.9 (63) to 9.4 (58) buffer at three-quarter time.
History was on the Lions' side - the Saints had won only three of their 16 Gabba games, although they had claimed two of the last four.
But in the end, Lions coach Michael Voss will remember his 50th game at the helm for all the wrong reasons.
Technically the Lions (0-4) are on track to match the club's worst start to a season - they failed to win a game until round six in their wooden spoon year of 1998.
But it could be argued they got more out of the match than the Saints.
St Kilda: 13.11 (89) - A Schneider 3, J Gram 2, J Steven 2, S Milne 2, B Goddard, F Ray, N Dal Santo, N Riewoldt

The Crows have started the season poorly, with only one win in their first three matches, which included a fade-out loss to Port Adelaide last round.
In an unprecedented move, Craig was taken off contract and placed on staff before the start of the season, removing the safety net of a fixed term as coach.
But Trigg said he was still certain to be coaching the club in 2012 and most likely much longer than that.
"Neil will certainly be coaching the Adelaide Crows beyond this year," Trigg told the AFL Footy Show on Thursday night.
"In fact, he will be coaching us for as far as the eye can see.
"We assess every part of our club all the time and we have a long-term perspective of where we are at.
"There are so many things to consider, not just the outcome of a football match."
The Crows came 12th last season, missing the finals for the first time in Craig's six full seasons in charge.
Adelaide plays Carlton at Docklands on Saturday night.

Sports Math is a collection of games designed to let students practice their math skills under the enthusiastic direction of sports desk anchor Les Dynam and roving reporter Sam Mathews who introduce each game and comment on the action and progress. Kick a fractioned soccer ball through a goal post or measure your skill at the long jump in meters; it's all about using math skills in everyday life until taught concepts are fully learned! There are five interactive math games included in the software. Each game focuses on a different aspect of fractions, such as estimating, common denominator, proper and improper fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, and equivalent fractions. Selecting one of the TV screens will access one of the games. The activities in Fraction Games are designed to bring fractions to life. Players are transported to a virtual reporting studio and from there to a sports field, where they move the flag on the long jump landing strip, solve problems on the baseball diamond, and so on. From this virtual world, students measure fractional distances at a real-world track meet or interpret sports statistics in the daily news.Price: $14.99

Adelaide Crows chief executive Steven Trigg has guaranteed Neil Craig will remain coach of the AFL club for the 2012 season at a minimum.

"We put him staff because we've got a developing list and we intend to see it through with him," Trigg told 891 Breakfast with Matthew Abraham and David Bevan this morning.
"No-one gets the job forever, but we're not going to turn him over on the back of a loss or a couple of bad losses, we've got a bigger picture in mind and we are very clear where we are going with it and that he's the right fellow for the job."

Peter Walsh and Roger Wills preview Round 5 of the AFL.
Round 5 of the AFL is an extended weekend of matches, with games running from Thursday through to Tuesday. The round kicks off with the now traditional Easter Thursday match between Brisbane and St Kilda at the Gabba.
Both teams are desperate to record their first win after struggling so far in 2011.
The Saints have key big man Justin Koschitzke back in the line up for the first time this year, and his addition should give the 2010 Grand Finalist enough firepower for a win.
Saturday afternoon the struggling Gold Coast Suns make their inaugural trip to Football Park, taking on Port Adelaide at 2:40.
The Power are reinvigorated after their stunning Showdown win, and they should be far too strong for the Suns.
The other SA team, the Crows, will be looking to turn their form around when they travel for the first time in 2011, heading to Docklands to play Carlton in the evening.
The Blues are looking like a potential top 4 team this year, so the injury hit Crows will have their work cut to try to win their first match since Round 1.
There is just the one match on Sunday with both Richmond and North Melbourne looking to break through for their first win this season.
The Tigers have looked good at times this year without getting the 4 points, while the Roos are coming off the draining trip to west.
Anzac Day sees the traditional blockbuster between Essendon and Collingwood at the MCG.
Not only is the match seeped in history, but this year it is shaping up as a match of real consequence, with the Pies undefeated and the Bombers impressing all and looking to press for a top 4 spot under new coach James Hird.
This year Fremantle and the Western Bulldogs will also play on Anzac Day, meeting at Subiaco Monday evening.
The Dockers have once again started the year in form, but a few injuries have started to have an impact on their list, while the Dogs have had a quiet start to the year and have yet to show if they really are a force this year.
The extended round finally wraps up on Tuesday with Hawthorn and Geelong meeting at the MCG.
The Cats have sailed through the opening rounds of the season with little fanfare racking up 4 straight wins and showing that they have lost little with the departure of Gary Ablett.
Their opponent on Tuesday - the Hawks - have also started the season with purpose and their narrow win last start has given them 3rd spot on the ladder.

Earlier this week, Sports Minister Terry Waldron met AFL representatives who indicated they would contribute a maximum of $15 million.
The new stadium, which is likely to be built at Burswood, will cost about $1 billion.
Mr Barnett has told Fairfax radio the AFL wants a new stadium in Perth and needs to give more money.
"I'd like more. I think an AFL contribution of about $50 million would be about right and we would get in the order of about $150 million from the Commonwealth Government," he said.
"In other words, if we got $200 million out of the Commonwealth and AFL combined, that'd be a good start."

However, he says naming two of the players he believed were down on form - Lachie Hansen and Sam Wright - was wrong.
Harvey says that while there had been some public fall-out from his comments on ABC radio after the match, there is little friction within the club.
But he says he has learnt an important lesson.
"I certainly wouldn't individualise," Harvey said.
"I won't shy away from what I said, though, because that's what I felt and I still feel that now.
"For us to go anywhere we need our young guys to really stand up. I'm not too fussed about what other people think outside our football club."
The Kangaroos and Richmond will clash at Docklands on Sunday with both clubs chasing their first win of the season.
"It's been a tough month," Harvey said.
"Going to Perth twice and playing Collingwood has been pretty tough but we get an opportunity in a couple of days to rectify that."
Tigers captain Chris Newman admits that a sense of desperation is creeping in at Punt Road as each week goes by without a victory, even though his side managed a draw with St Kilda in round two.
"Every week you lose you become more urgent to win a game," Newman said.
"We're desperate to win a game.
"We've been in a couple of games and in some winning positions where we haven't finished off, but we feel like we've played some quality opposition and our game plan has held up for the most part."
Newman says the Tigers had been hurt in recent weeks by the suspensions of key defenders Alex Rance and Luke McGuane, although Dylan Grimes has performed well in the backline.
"We told them both that we were all disappointed in their actions," Newman said.
"They're the bigger bodies and they're the ones that we rely on to try and stop those goals that are deeper inside 50."
