The AFL is in secret talks with the New South Wales Government to take the Brownlow Medal night to Sydney next year.
But Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu told The Herald Sun that if the AFL even contemplated shifting its big awards night out of Melbourne, it would show it is out of touch with Victorian football lovers.
The move would coincide with the launch of Sydney's second AFL team.
An $850 million facelift of Sydney's Star City Casino is the key in the bid to host the event.
A grand hall in the redevelopment will hold up to 4,000 people, dwarfing Crown's Palladium, which has a 1,700 capacity.
