After listening to several speeches from such dignitaries as Queensland Premier Anna Bligh, Federal Minster for Regional Development Simon Crean and Gold Coast Mayor Ron Clarke the light applause turned into a sudden eruption as Sun's Captain Garry Ablett trotted out onto the field.
The former Brownlow Medallist opened the Stadium in the only way he knew how - by kicking the first goal on his new stadium from a nervous 40m out.
