The Power AFL rescue pack

Struggling Port Adelaide Football Club is commencing negotiations with the AFL to keep the Power above water until it moves to Adelaide Oval. CEO of Port Adelaide Football Club, Mark Hayesman, told 891 Breakfast that although they are not entirely sure of the final amount of funding to be received by the AFL next year, around $2.5 million is expected.

"One of the most significant outcomes from yesterday was that we will be getting visibility of the support coming through from the AFL in conjunction with the SANFL for our club for the next three years."

Mr Hayesman said although the past week had been rife in speculation and rumours, he had not sought legal counsel over the issue of his employment and continued to receive the support of the Port Adelaide Football Club board.

He said at this stage the club was not sure as to what conditions and requests may come with the AFL's financial commitment, but said that with the latest rounds of broadcast rights deals all of the 18 AFL teams would be individually supported to ensure their futures.

"We'll build on the plan we have now to make sure we are delivering the best possible performance by the time we get to Adelaide Oval."

Port Adelaide Football Club is hoping to move to Adelaide Oval by 2014.
