Grandstand WAFL's Esperance Extravaganza

At Grandstand WAFL we take the footy very seriously.

We just don't take ourselves seriously.

So, on our recent trip to Esperance, Commentator Lachy Reid decided to grab the microphone we normally record our post match interviews on and document the sort of nonsense goes on around the Grandstand WAFL team.

Find out which WAFL coach decided to walk to the ground rather than catch the team bus.

Learn just who really eats the most as part of their pre-game preparation.

Uncover Clint's pre-game controversy.

Hear from you'll Technical Wizard Martin Roth as he reveals his current choice of reading material.

Discover who has the most sought after autograph in the South Fremantle side.

We'll also reveal who has the worst board shorts in the WAFL, Esperance, and quite possibly all of WA.

All that and more, as you get the chance to go behind the scenes of Grandstand WAFL (and with some highlights from one of the games of the season thrown in for good measure).

State of Origin: Game 1 live on Grandstand Digital

Game 1 between Queensland and NSW takes place at Lang Park this Wednesday night at 6:35, and we have all the action live on Grandstand Digital Radio.

The match will mark the start of the end of representative football for the great Darren Lockyer, with the 2011 series to be the last for one of Queensland's best ever players.

Not only will he be looking to lead his team to a record breaking 6th straight series win, but in Game 1 he will equal the great Allan Langer with 34 Origin Games.

His Queensland team mates will be desperate to send him out a winner, and a victory on home soil in Game 1 will go a long way to achieving that goal.

For the NSW boys, a few new faces have been called in to the squad as they look to win the opening game of a series for the first time since 2008.

Not only have their northern rivals dominated in the series count in recent years, they have also allowed NSW to win just 1 in the past 8 starts, so the Blues will be putting everything on the line to win in Brisbane.

Expect fast, entertaining and high scoring football, with the odd bit of biffo thrown in for good measure.

Make sure you don't miss a minute of the action - tune in to Grandstand Digital 1 or 2 this Wednesday night from 6:35pm

Grandstand WAFL now online

720 ABC Perth is now streaming the Grandstand WAFL Broadcast game in its entirety! Here are this weeks games and information on how to listen online.

720 ABC Perth is now streaming the Grandstand WAFL Broadcast game in its entirety.

In recent years, AFL commitments have meant the ABC hasn't be able to join the WAFL on local radio or digital radio until quarter time.

Now listeners will be able to hear the game from the opening bounce at 720 Perth.

With a growing number of people listening to the radio via internet streaming and through smart phone apps, 720 ABC Perth decided WAFL fans shouldn't have to miss a minute of the action.

We know there are WAFL listeners from Bayswater to Britain, and now anyone with an internet connection will be able to hear Grandstand WAFL's award winning coverage for the whole game.

While other mainstream radio stations have over time turned their backs on broadcasting the WAFL, this decision strengthens the ABC's strong commitment to covering WA's premier football competition. It's a commitment that stretches back to before the Second World War.

Click here to be taken straight to the live stream.

This week's game:

Round 9
Swan Districts v Subiaco from Bassendean Oval

Commentary Team: Clint Wheeldon, Corbin Middlemas and Dual Sandover Medallist Peter Spencer.
