AFL clears Ziebell case tweeters

Updated July 20, 2012 19:11:55

The AFL has cleared North Melbourne pair Drew Petrie and Majak Daw and Geelong's James Kelly for comments made on Twitter earlier this week.

The players tweeted their disapproval of a four-week suspension handed to Kangaroo Jack Ziebell by the AFL tribunal for his challenge on Carlton's Aaron Joseph.

The AFL has said the comments made by the players were not in breach of any rules or regulations.

Shortly after the verdict, Kangaroos skipper Petrie tweeted: "Advice for @jackziebell. Stop being so courageous and playing footy hard the way it's meant to be played. Please turn into a softy!"

Daw also came to his team-mate's defence: "Can't not comprehend the match reviews (sic) decision over @jackziebell. 4 weeks!! Come on that's capital punishment"

The Cats' James Kelly unsubtly hinted at his disagreement with the verdict.

"I was going to tweet how Zebel (sic) getting 4 weeks was a mare of a decision but decided not to so I don't get in trouble #smartkell.....smart," he wrote.
