Tigers re-sign Tuck

Updated September 19, 2012 17:56:07

Shane Tuck has signed a one-year contract extension with Richmond.

The deal will see Tuck play out a 10th season at the senior level and he is set to add to his 163 appearances for the Tigers.

The 30-year-old enjoyed a consistent 2012 season, playing every match for the Tigers and averaging just over 26 possessions.

He led the club in contested possessions, centre clearances and tackles, and finished fourth in the Jack Dyer Medal voting.

Crows re-sign utility Henderson

Updated September 12, 2012 17:05:56

Adelaide has re-signed Ricky Henderson for three more seasons.

The 24-year-old utility made his senior debut in 2010, having been recruited by the Crows through the 2009 rookie draft.

The club had first made contact with Henderson the previous year when he was attending a basketball talent identification camp.

"For someone with a limited background in football, Ricky has come a long way in his short time with the club," Adelaide list manager David Noble said in a statement.

Henderson suffered an ankle injury in round 16 of the AFL but returned to playing duties in the SANFL late last month.

Sloane the latest Crow to re-sign

Updated June 04, 2012 12:34:47

The good news has continued for the high-flying Adelaide Crows, with Rory Sloane becoming the fourth player re-signing with the club in the last week.

Sloane, who has played 43 games for the Crows after being drafted in 2009, has signed a new three-year contract.

The 22-year-old midfielder was added to Adelaide's leadership group this year.

He has responded to his new responsibilities and has been one of Adelaide's most influential players, averaging 22 disposals, four marks, five tackles, 4 clearances and 4 inside 50s in the opening ten rounds.

In a statement, Crows football operations general manager Phil Harper said Sloane was an important part of the club's plans.

"We have built a really strong group of young players in the past few drafts and Rory has developed into one of the leaders, which is great for our team," Harper said.

"They are a tight and loyal group and have great confidence about the future of the football club."

Adelaide appears to be striking while the iron is hot, securing the services of a core group of midfielders to ensure stability for the next few seasons.

Along with Sloane the Crows have signed midfielders Patrick Dangerfield and Richard Douglas, and young defender Matt Jaensch to new contracts in the past week.

The biggest remaining piece in the puzzle for Adelaide is key forward Kurt Tippett. The Crows reportedly began negotiations with Tippett's management last week, with the aim of securing an agreement by the end of June.

The Crows have made a brilliant start under new coach Brenton Sanderson, winning this year's preseason competition and starting the home and away season 8-2 to sit third on the ladder on percentage behind only West Coast and Essendon.

Last year, Adelaide finished 14th with just seven wins for the year.

Power re-sign Brett Ebert

Updated October 07, 2011 19:55:07

Port Adelaide has re-signed forward Brett Ebert and his cousin Brad could soon join him at the AFL club.

Brett played his 150th game at the end of this season, in which he managed only 12 games because of a knee injury and illness.

He is the son of SA football icon Russell Ebert, who starred for Port Adelaide in the local league.

Brad told West Coast this week that he wants to be traded to either the Power or Adelaide.

According to media reports, the Crows do not want to become involved in a bidding war.

Brad has played 76 games for the Eagles, but only played in one of their three finals matches last month.

He is the son of Russell's younger brother Craig, who also played for Port and West Adelaide in the SANFL.

Bombers re-sign midfield duo

Updated October 10, 2011 19:53:10

Essendon's 2011 club champion David Zaharakis and fellow midfielder Travis Colyer have signed new deals with the Bombers.

Zaharakis, 21, has committed to a three-year contract which runs until the end of the 2014 AFL season.

Colyer, 20, has signed a two-year deal.

"We feel both David and Travis will have a strong role to play in Essendon's next period of sustained success and we are obviously very pleased to have them commit to the club," football operations manager Paul Hamilton said on Monday on the club's website.

"Both players have improved dramatically this season - including David winning his first Crichton medal in only his third season of football - and we feel they both can develop further over the next two years to establish themselves as integral members of the Essendon midfield."

Zaharakis was pick number 23 in the 2008 National Draft and has played 53 games.

Colyer has played 21 matches after being drafted at number 26 in 2009.

Dockers re-sign valuable five

Posted June 1, 2011 18:41:00

Fremantle's quest to keep their emerging stars out of the reach of Greater Western Sydney received a massive boost on Wednesday, with Kepler Bradley and Hayden Ballantyne among five players to re-sign with the club.

Ballantyne, who in less than three seasons has established himself as one of the competition's best small forwards, has re-signed until the end of 2014, while Bradley, Anthony Morabito, Tendai Mzungu and Jayden Pitt are all locked in until the end of 2013.

The new deals keep the quintet out of reach of GWS, who have been given the next two years to sign up one uncontracted player from each existing club.

Bradley, much maligned during his 94-game career, has been somewhat of a surprise packet this season, booting 20 goals from nine games to lead the Dockers' goalkicking.

The 25-year-old played under current GWS coach Kevin Sheedy at Essendon and would have been a prime target for the incoming club.

Morabito played 23 games in his debut 2010 season but will miss this year due to a knee injury.

And there are high hopes for 25-year-old mature-age recruit Mzungu and 18-year-old midfielder Pitt, snared with pick No.20 in last year's national draft.

Harvey backs Pav

Meanwhile, Fremantle coach Mark Harvey has scoffed at claims Matthew Pavlich is carrying an injury, claiming the skipper's perceived form slump over the past month has more to do with the players around him not pulling their weight.

The injury-hit Dockers have lost three of their past four games and could slip out of the top eight if they do not win Sunday's clash with in-form Hawthorn at the MCG.

"He probably would like his quality to be better, meaning his disposal but, apart from that, I think he's been physically playing the role (well) for us," Harvey said.

"I think he's contributing from a leadership point of view.

"I think he's playing quite well but there's a difference of opinion out there in the public domain and perhaps the media domain, but I think he's OK.

"I don't get caught up in all that opinion of how's he going.

"I know how he's going and, as I said, some of the players should be playing better around him that actually complements what he does."

Pavlich had played most of the season in the midfield but Harvey said the increased workload had not taken its toll on the 29-year-old.

"He actually played the majority of the game forward after half-time last week," Harvey said.

"I'm not here to justify why Matthew Pavlich plays on ball. In fact, he wants to get on ball as much as he can, particularly when the team needs momentum or we have to change momentum, so that's what a captain does."
