AFL Wrap: Round 9

AFL Round 9 kicked off with another classic Friday night encounter, this time between Carlton and Geelong at Docklands.

Both team look assured of figuring in the finals this season and fought out a thrilling match with the Cats holding on to their unbeaten record with a two point win.

Saturday afternoon, Port Adelaide sunk to a new low, humbled by 52 points by Fremantle at Footy Park.

The match was over at half time and an even second half cannot hide the fact that the Power are a shell of the former selves.

St Kilda finally got back on the winners list and breathed some life in to their season with a win over Melbourne, while Saturday night in "Dreamtime at the G", Richmond confirmed their improvement with a great win over Essendon.

The other Saturday night match heralded the return of Jonathan Brown for Brisbane, and his 4 goals and general on field presence contributed to Brisbane's first win of the year, a 14 point victory over North Melbourne.

On Sunday the Crows more than matched Collingwood in the opening three terms before falling away badly as the Pies slammed on 11 straight goals in the last term to run out comfortable winners.

Hawthorn moved to third on the ladder with their first win over Sydney in Sydney for 8 years, while West Coast continued their remarkable turnaround with a 123 point win over the Bulldogs, with Kennedy kicking a career high 10 goals.
