There were stories of the great times of old and Mortlock victories past, but it wasn't a great day for the maroons, with Port Lincoln leading from every break in the Centenary celebration match in Cummins.
Sure Great Flinders were without a strong key forward player apart from Jim Holman, but Port Lincoln held all the cards for pace, strength and forward options - and stretched the lead to six goals in the third quarter despite losing star Murray Kelsh with a knee injury.
With a lot of discussions around the oval about the incredible victories that Great Flinders has had over the 100 years, we think they now have 100 reasons to improve their game by the June long weekend, for the Mortlock Shield carnival.

Under 17's - Game 1 report by Pat Head
Lincoln Districts secured a win in the first game of the Under 17's against Great Flinders. The majority of play was in Lincoln Districts' forward line aided by a strong wind in the first half. After good play from Kenneth Davey, Aron Redman kicked Lincoln Districts' first goal.
A free kick to Major Lienert near goal then gave Lincoln Districts another major score. Some slick hands and good work out of the middle led to Coen Taylor picking up a third for Lincoln Districts leading into half time, the question being had Lincoln Districts done enough with Great Flinders getting the wind advantage for the final half?

Lincoln Districts attacked with good defensive work by Jack Haarsma and Will Nankivell for Great Flinders. Great Flinders worked hard to keep the ball forward against a determined Lincoln Districts defence with Will Nankivell and Nicholas Gale having shots at goal, but unable to convert.
A breakthrough came when Jack Maughan goaled for Great Flinders. A second goal to Great Flinders eventuated when Dylan Wander put one through. Great Flinders had the same number of scoring shots but inaccuracy cost them in the end with Lincoln Districts making better use of the ball.

Under 17's - Game 3 report by Pat Head
The third Under 17's clash saw Lincoln City defeat Great Flinders in what was a very low scoring game. Great Flinders kicked with the howling northerly wind. Lincoln City took the ball forward against the wind and worked it down to James Laken who had a tough shot from the boundary and couldn't goal. Another shot at goal gave Lincoln City a point.
Play moved into Great Flinders forward line but they couldn't score, with a big run out of defence by Aaron Dunn for Lincoln City.
Half Time Great Flinders 0-0 Lincoln City 0-1
Lincoln City coach Scott Clarke told his players "this is your opportunity to shine, now take it" as they took the field after half time hoping to take full advantage of the wind. They worked the ball forward with Jayden Blewitt having a shot, but hitting the post.
There was good battling and desperation by both sides with Lincoln City looking the better side, but the scoreboard suggesting a more even game. Jack Jacobs ran ball into Great Flinders forward line but Lincoln City's defenders were able to get it out. Jake Shulz attacked for Great Flinders but it was rushed for a point giving Great Flinders their only score, going down by 2 points to Lincoln City.

Lincoln Districts picked up a win over Great Flinders in the first game of the 3 game round-robin format for the Under 15s competition. Lincoln Districts kicked with the wind with Austin Miller kicking 2 goals for Lincoln Districts followed by 1 to Max Cooper.
Ben Glover and Luke Partington worked hard for Great Flinders before Austin Miller picked up another 2 goals for Lincoln Districts. Port Lincoln's running game was far superior with good play from Samuel Bare, Keenan Ramsey and Geoff Taylor.

The wind was dominating proceedings and Brandon Rogers goaled half way through the final quarter for Great Flinders' first and only goal for the match.

Under 15's - Game 3 report by Pat Head
The third game of the Under 15's competition saw Great Flinders take out a 9 point win over Lincoln City. Lincoln City had the wind (which was strongly favouring the southern end now) in the first half and picked up 2 goals courtesy of Tom Porter.
Despite good efforts from Kyle Emery, Jack Tansell and Angus Bell, one wondered if Port Lincoln had done enough by half time.
Half Time: Great Flinders 0-0 Lincoln City 2-4
Great Flinders got things underway in the second half when an 85-metre shot, albeit slightly aided by the wind, rolled through for a goal to Brandon Rogers. Rogers then marked and goaled again putting Great Flinders right in the game at Lincoln City 2-4 to Great Flinders 2 goals. Great Flinders then hit the lead when Brett Northcott gained possession from a loose defensive kick and goaled.
Great Flinders scored another major when Luke Partington carried the ball forward and it ended up in Brett Northcott's hands who goaled again.

Great Flinders kicked centenary celebrations off with a win over Port Lincoln in the Under 13s match. Great Flinders kicked to the southern end aided by a reasonably strong breeze. Port Lincoln defended well, with Mitchell Partington and Max Treloar standing out for Great Flinders. The difficult windy conditions meant it was scrambly match, a theme that followed through the day.
Quarter Time: Great Flinders 0-3 Port Lincoln 0-0
A goal against the breeze to Jack Bedding gave Great Flinders their first goal. When Port Lincoln got control of the ball they played a good running game and they got their first when captain Nick Pedro goaled following a scrimmage for the ball.
Half Time: Great Flinders 1-3 Port Lincoln 1-2
Great Flinders capitalised on the breeze after half time with Flynn Peach playing on after a free kick to put Great Flinders second goal on the board. A mark to Alex Glover gave Great Flinders another goal and Jack Green then goaled after a mark in the square.
Three Quarter Time: Great Flinders 4-5 Port Lincoln 1-2
Port Lincoln fought back in the final quarter with a at the 7 minute mark from Braden Robinson but it was a little too late. Port Lincoln looked good when they ran the ball but got caught too many times by Great Flinders excellent tackling.
Eastern Eyre has taken out the first interleague round robin match held against Mid West and Far West in Wudinna at the weekend.
Eastern Eyre also won the Under 17s competition and Under 13s competition with Mid West winning the Under 15s.
Mid West footballer Tyler Baldock has taken out the overall best and fairest of the interleague round robin in Wudinna at the weekend.
Baldock won the best for Mid West, while Drew Hardy won best from Far West league and Nick Franklin won best for Eastern Eyre.
