AFL Wrap: Round 7

Collingwood, Geelong, Carlton and Essendon fill the top 4 spots in the AFL ladder after Round 7 of the AFL, while St Kilda's slide continues, down to 14th spot with just 1 win for the year.

Round 7 saw Melbourne regain some respect with a massive win over the Crows, Richmond won their third match in a row with an impressive victory over Fremantle, while the Gold Coast claimed bragging rights in the Sunshine State with a stunning win over Brisbane in the inaugural QClash.

Friday night footy saw Hawthorn overcame a stubborn Port Adelaide to give themselves 5th spot on the ladder and across in Canberra Sydney withstood a late Bulldogs charge to claim the points at Manuka Oval.

Geelong continued their unbeaten start to the season with an easy win over North Melbourne, giving the Cats their 25th straight win at Kardinia Park.

Essendon overcame West Coast at Docklands, and the Bombers now look like a genuine finals contender under new coach James Hird.

The final match of the round was a thriller, with Carlton defeating St Kilda by 3 points on Monday night.

The Saints snatched the lead late in the final term and finally looked like returning to the winners circle, before a Walker goal with just minutes remaining gave the lead back to the Blues, who held on to win despite the efforts of a desperate St Kilda team.
