Harvey to appeal ban

Updated September 12, 2012 16:07:18

North Melbourne has announced it will appeal the two-match suspension handed down to club stalwart Brent Harvey for striking West Coast's Adam Selwood.

Harvey received a four-week ban for striking Selwood's team-mate Daniel Kerr during the Kangaroos' fiery elimination final against West Coast at Subiaco Oval.

But the Kangaroos have announced they plan to fight the additional two-match ban handed down by the tribunal for striking Selwood, with a hearing set to take place next week.

Should the Kangaroos fail in its appeal, Harvey will miss the opening six weeks of the 2013 season.

"[Missing] six weeks of football at any time in your career is absolutely devastating," Harvey said.

"I'm absolutely shattered I will be missing six games of football for our football club."

The 34-year-old would have received a four-week ban had he not opted to contest the charge.

Darryl White re-registered after ban appeal

Updated January 23, 2012 23:24:08

Former AFL premiership star Darryl White has been re-registered to play in the Northern Territory after successfully appealing a decision to ban him for life.

In December, AFLNT deregistered the former Brisbane Lions great under a rule for all AFL-affiliated competitions that bans players for life if they are suspended for more than 15 games.

White, 38, who plays for the St Mary's Football Club in the Northern Territory, had been given a one-match suspension for striking Tiwi Bomber Donald Mungatopi, pushing him above the limit.

But on Monday evening, AFLNT said the independent appeals board had decided to re-register White following his appeal.

"The re-registration has been granted subject to the completion of a re-offender prevention plan undertaken by him and the St Mary's Football Club," the statement said.

Further details of what the re-offender prevention plan entails will be released on Tuesday, an AFLNT spokesman said.

White played in Brisbane's three premiership sides from 2001-03 and in 2005 was named at full-back in the Australian Rules football Indigenous Team of the Century.

Demons to appeal Trengove's ban

Updated May 11, 2011 13:57:00

Melbourne will appeal the tribunal's decision to suspend young midfielder Jack Trengove for what it believes was a faultless tackle.

Trengove was banned for three matches on Tuesday night, over the tackle which concussed Adelaide's Patrick Dangerfield at the MCG on Sunday.

The 19-year-old pinned Dangerfield's arm and threw him to the ground, but argued it was an unfortunate accident that the Crow's head slammed into the ground.

The AFL's appeals board will re-examine the case on Thursday afternoon.

The Demons are fighting the charge on the grounds that the decision was so unreasonable that no tribunal could have made it with regard to the evidence.

They also say both the classification of the level of offence and the sanction imposed were manifestly excessive.

Demons football operations manager Craig Notman says the club believes it was a textbook tackle.

"We deem it as a tackle that, from what we teach our players, was completed to a tee," Notman told Melbourne's SEN radio.

"It's unfortunate that Patty Dangerfield was hurt, but part of his actions actually contributed to the force he hit the ground.

"Jack's tackle was probably as close to perfect as we could want."

The AFL has defended the tribunal's decision.
