Hentschel's playing days over

Ongoing injuries have brought the football career of Trent Hentschel to an end, with the 28-year-old announcing his retirement from the SANFL.

Hentschel played 50 games for Woodville West Torrens, but the club says a disc injury in his back has hampered his ability to train this season.

Hentschel retired from the AFL last year after playing 71 games for the Crows.

His worst injury came during a Showdown in 2006, with surgeons likening damage to his knee to what one would expect from a car crash.

Hentschel will remain at the Eagles in a coaching role and will continue to work as the club's football manager.

Trent Hentschel will be our special guest Saturday morning on SA Grandstand - tune in from 11am
