AFL to assist Lions' ailing finances

The Brisbane Lions have confirmed they are struggling financially after a combination of administrative problems and the recent Queensland natural disasters.

A spokesman has confirmed the club is receiving assistance from the AFL but says the situation is not critical.

He says attendance at home games is down about 25 per cent, and three senior AFL executives are in Brisbane to help get the club's finances back in order.

The spokseman says a financial rescue package is expected to be finalised within the next few months.
