AFL Wrap: Round 11

Melbourne finally answered their critics with a big performance on the big stage of Friday night football.

The Dees ignored all the predictions of a Bombers win and with a stunning third term that saw them kick 6 goals to nil they ran away to an impressive win over Essendon at the MCG.

On Saturday Geelong stretched their winning streak at Kardinia Park to 26 with a easy win over the Western Bulldogs, while West Coast withstood a spirited performance by the Gold Coast to win by 18 points.

On Saturday night the Collingwood juggernaut rolled on with another win, this time over St Kilda at the MCG.

It was a rematch of the 2010 Grand Final and the margin was similar to the result of the replay, with the Pies kicking away after half time to record a comfortable victory.

Sydney burst out of the blocks against Brisbane at the Gabba, kicking 13 goals to 2 in a dominant first half display.

The contest was a little more even in the second half but the Swans had done enough to win their 6th match of the season.

On Sunday Hawthorn kicked the final 8 goals of the match to turn a 28 point deficit into a 22 point win over Fremantle.

The stunning victory around achieved without Lance Franklin, with the mercurial Rioli kicking 5 goals and super sub Bruest 3, all in the last term.

North Melbourne celebrated Brent Harvey's record equalling match with an impressive 47 point win over Adelaide.

The Roos kicked the first 5 goals of the match and were never headed, with the Crows once again under pressure after suffering their 7th loss of the year.

The final match of the round was an even contest in the opening half, with Port Adelaide more than matching the more highly fancied Carlton.

But class shone through in the end, with the Blues kicking 11 goals to just 1 in the second half to run out easy winners.
